What about a shadow roll?

Alright, so my lovely little Thoroughbred is quite the spooky fellow. I really sort of deal with it, but it was suggested that I try a shadow roll on him. I know they use them on racehorses, but with jumping, are there any reasons why you wouldn't use them, i.e. issues with seeing a jump? and for anyone who uses one, what are your thoughts?
