Can anyone give me some everyday examples of problems which has an easy solution that everyone knows to use? ?

I need help brainstorming for examples; it's for English. I'm supposed to come up with a persona and give a moral tale relating to my persona. Since I'm a therapist, I'm helping an Asian mother (my patient) to get over a bad relationship with her Asian-American daughter. Since she is overreacting so much, I'm trying to tell her the problem is solvable. My moral is "Every problem has a solution", and so I go into a tale describing a guy who gets a papercut and he tries to come up with ways to fix it, when he only has to put on a band-aid. I need other examples where this guy goes into unnecessary, drastic measures just to fix a simple problem.
